International Student Mobility in the European Union and Armenia
Dear students,
We are hosting a workshop on education mobility and study abroad. The workshop is facilitated by Dr. David Cairns, a Senior Researcher from the Centre for Studies and Research in Sociology, ISCTE-University Institute of Lisbon and the President of the IGAA, a PhD researcher from Leiden University, Faculty of Humanities, Marine Sargsyan.
The aim of this workshop is to introduce you to the topic of international student mobility through discussion of the barriers to moving abroad and potential benefits from studying at a foreign university. This workshop forms part of a Portuguese government funded project on student mobility, examining differences between Portugal, Germany, Estonia and the United Kingdom in the European Union, with additional perspectives from students in China and Armenia. It will include an outline of mobility platforms such as the Erasmus programme as well as considering some of the consequences arising from the opening-up of borders as part of so-called ‘free movement’.
The remaining part of the workshop will involve discussing your expectations and experiences of mobility, including movement between the EU and Armenia. There will also be an opportunity to ask about developments in student mobility, including some of the challenges facing people who wish to move to the EU for skilled work or to continue their studies.
