This screening starts with the short film “Can You Read My Lips,” a captivating piece about the deaf community’s lip-reading that gives viewers a chance to experience what it would be like to try to understand what people are saying with only their sight. The feature presentation, “A Brave Heart,” tells the story of a young woman born with a rare syndrome that prevents her from gaining weight who becomes the target of cyber bullies when a YouTube video labels her “The World’s Ugliest Woman.” The film chronicles unheard stories and details of Lizzie’s physical and emotional journey from humiliation to empowered anti-bulling champion.
The screening is free, with admission on a first-come, first-served basis. It is part of the U.S. Embassy’s American Film Showcase “Mosaic of Human Stories,” a month-long celebration of American film and the cinematic arts.
