To Let revolves around the life and times of a family. They live in a rented single bed room apartment. Their aspirations are modest and dreams humble: The landlady who is an epitome of greed wants to rent out the apartment to anyone else who can pay more. Ilango is forced due to the notice of eviction to search for an apartment within his meager income. He hunts for an apartment with his wife and son, only to realize that the doors of various apartments, near and far owned by people across caste and class, are foreclosed for him. In utter desperation, he finally decides to fake his identity.
